How to Create the Perfect Instagram Bio

Let's talk about the importance of your Instagram bio. Did you know that on average, someone makes a decision about how they value your profile in about 2 seconds? So, you have about 2 seconds to capture attention, and exactly 150 characters to make a good first impression.

Ready to learn how to make a killer Instagram bio? See these 8 tips:

#1. Does Your Bio check Off the Following?

A good Instagram bio should answer these two basic questions right off the bat: "What do you do?" and "What do you want to drive people to do?" Meaning, you need to concisely and CLEARLY convey exactly what it is that you do, are selling, or value offering. Secondly, make sure to include a call to action in your bio. Want people to sign up for your newsletter? Direct them to it! Have a great deal going on your website that you want people to check out? Include a link and point to it πŸ‘‡πŸ»(emojis not required, but suggested πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ¦‹).

# 2. Use Your Bio to Attract Your Ideal Audience

Remember your bio is basically a 150-word business pitch. Try to infuse your brand personality into your bio while also effectively conveying what it is that you do. If applicable, also include WHO it is that you are serving. Such as, "serving small service-based brands."

#3. Don't Forget to Include Keywords

The name field is an important spot to make sure to include your keywords! Use your name, OR better yet use your job title, such as "Instagram Strategist". In 2021, Instagram SEO discoverability will become even more important.

#4. Utilize Your Bio Link

Make sure you are getting the MOST in this space! I love using Milkshake to create a "mini-website" within my Instagram bio. I have multiple pages outlining what I do, about me, and most importantly: my links. Here, I can easily share all my important links to potential clients - like my website, my latest youtube video, etc. IT. IS. GREAT!

#5. Add Your Contact Information

Remember to make yourself as easily accessible as possible! Make sure you have all your contact info filled out, such as your email or phone number, or physical location, and a link to your website (if you have one).

#6. The Profile Picture

Make sure your profile picture is crisp and clear - after all it is how people will recognize your page! Now for the debate, logo, or picture? If you are a business on Instagram, your will probably want to use your logo. However, if you are an entrepreneur, or have a more "you-centric" brand like a coach, photographer, stylist, etc. then a profile picture may help to connect with your audience more!

#7. Instagram Highlights

Make sure you are fully taking advantage of Instagram's features by including organized story highlights! Instagram Stories highlights appear directly under your Instagram bio and play as a stand-alone story when someone taps on them.

Think of them as a movie trailer for your Instagram feed β€” they’re perfect for sharing valuable information about your brand, spotlighting your community, and showing your personality.
